It's good to be a mommy!

This whole month has been very negative with all the political hoop-la of Prop 8 and all the ripping back and forth with the Presidential stuff. For me, my mind is made up on many of the issues, so I'm ready for them all to just pipe down! It makes me nervous to hear people arguing and being mean to one another.

Last night I was blessed with the opportunity to stand on a street corner with my brothers and sisters holding "Yes on 8" signs. We got many more positive comments than negative (thank you to the brother that was keeping tally). The negatives were far more vulgar than I had anticipated. There were some thumbs down that were fine. It was the foul language and mean gestures (with small children in the car, I might add) that really surprised me. I'm not shocked by the difference on opinion, just the expression seemed over the top. I'm so looking forward to November 5th.

So, today as I was leaving the elementary school I saw an older lady walking in. I think she's an aide. She was wearing an obviously festive, home made Halloween themed vest. (Only teachers or educators can get away with that look). I commented on how fun it was. She said, "Thank you. My mommy made it for me!" I laughed since this lady was in her 60's, and said how nice it was that she could still say that with pride.

It just made me think of how special those little things are that mommies do for their kids. I look around both the school and church and see good mommies doing such good things with their kids. I wonder if I'm doing enough good things with my kids. I'm sure all kids find things to complain about, no matter how well the parents did. Being a 'mommy' helps keep me positive in this otherwise negative, nasty little world we live in.

Love that story. :) My mommy took me shopping and made me birthday brownies yesterday. Mommies are simply the best.

I couldn't agree more! Being a mommy is the best- and having one is such an amazing blessing!

It is hard to imagine people being so horrible. Living in Utah, we don't hear or see much on Prop. 8 other than the fact that it exists. I think it is commendable that you are giving your time to fight for this. It is so horrible to think that our leaders think it is ok to change the definition of family. You are being a good mommy, to fight for families. If we don't have our moms and dads together raising our children our country is sunk!

Kim, I think you are an excellent mommy. Your kids are lucky to have you. You do so much for them. Keep up the good work.

Why is it that I appreciate this more with each child that leaves?

You are a good Mother. It is the best job I could have even though my kids are all gone and grown. Now I get to spoil the grand kids. I love reading about your life, it is better than the Christmas letter.

I'm not sure which I enjoy the most, your appreciation of motherhood or festive holiday vests....

That is a cute story, I hope my kids still call me their mommy when they are old. I love it! Way to go holding the signs. Brett got mooned on Tuesday night, by a young boy with his mom in the car. Seriously.

I guess not all mommies are teaching good things, eh, Melissa? Eeks! Glad I didn't see that moon!

ah, festive holiday vests - really there are very few people that can pull that off, I just hope my kids will call me mom for at least the next 15 years, let alone 50.. :)
