In the middle of the project Jon turns to me and says, "This is the first time I've ever done this. This is fun!"
Can you believe that??? Make no mistake, the older two kids have colored eggs in their life time. It just appears that I lost interest around 8 years ago. (oops!) In my defense, we have made these eggs every year. And the ones we make are MUCH tastier!!!

Each year we do our family Easter egg hunt with the Drews at Poway Lake on Saturday. This was the first year we were rained out and had to move the hunt indoors. To make the picnic special we pick up KFC, it's the only time of the year we eat it and it makes everything REALLY easy!

On Saturday night we wanted to bring the reality of the season into focus. We had a simple dinner and turned all the lights in the house off. We ate with only a few candles on the table. We talked about how the earth suffered during the crucifixion and the physical darkness the people expereinced. And what it really means for Christ to be the light of the world. The kids had a lot of insightful questions, and it was a good discussion. I love this season and what we really celebrate.
This is one photogenic group of kids, eh?!

I LOVE the idea of eating a simple meal in the candlelight. How great is that?! I'm adding that to our tradition next year!
Man. For some reason I read "Brian" instead of "Jon" and could not believe he had never colored eggs. Ha!
I bet my kids would love the candlelight idea, looks like a fun weekend - too bad I have to report you to CPS for never having offered egg coloring to John before, ha ha
Your dinner is such a wonderful idea. I want to try that.
It was fun to see you. Your bars were FABULOUS! You are such a great cook.
you are awesome! I love the idea of the candlelight dinner!!!
I am glad you got the tradition of coloring eggs going again. I want some of those chocolates!
Don't feel bad about Jon, I am 23 and have never colored eggs...
LOL...I just didn't see you as the abusive non-egg dying Mom type. Your bars were delicious at Melissa's shower. I just want to let you know that I had made it 36hours without sugar...until seeing those shower desserts :(
Those are fantastic traditions!
I think I want to copy the candlelight tradition. What a great idea and the kids will never forget that.
Those chocolate eggs looked delicious!! I love family traditions.
Those chocolate eggs look divine. If I could get some next year, it would totally count as like 2 months of vising teaching!
You do so many fun things with your kids. What a great mom!
